Undeterred, the College of Pharmacy and Chemistry (CPC) of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) graced the first virtual gathering via Zoom and Facebook on September 25 for the celebration of the World Pharmacists Day 2020. In line with the event’s theme “Transforming Global Health”, this initiative was organized by the Mindanao Alliance of Pharmacy Schools (MAPS) to gather fifteen different institutions with the aim of pushing forward pharmacy and its more expansive role in public health, and promoting the pharmacy profession.
Various activities were conducted to show the integral contribution of pharmacists in the society’s access to safe, effective, and affordable medicines, as well as the pharmaceutical care services. Through contents encompassing Video Tribute for Pharmacists as Frontliners, Digital Poster Slogan, Tiktok Video Challenge, Medication Counseling, and PHARMArunong Quiz Bowl, the said event also underscored the unrecognized importance of the pharmacists as among the heroes in the COVID-19 battle. Other events include webinar for the faculty, and quiz bowl for the registered pharmacists’ category.
The virtual celebration made noise as different entries garnered power heart reactions and tags. But the cheers went louder as UIC claimed the victory in four different contests. Ritch Joshua Villadarez and Lydia Fe Landingin secured first place for the PHARMarunong Quiz Bowl. Xyrielle Mae Ugdoracion won first place for the video making contest. Annastaesha Estolonio, April Noveilene Gorres, and Ariel John Tayag bagged the first place and the People’s Choice Award for the TikTok challenge. Yentl Madisson Arancon and Mary Rose Godinez were also hailed champions for the patient counseling and Faith Ezequiela Barcelona and Smyly Zheinn Estandarte landed third place for the digital poster slogan making.
Ma. Tricia Jamaica Alegre, the Omicron Chapter Governor, shared her insight behind the college’s triumph, “It wouldn’t be indeed a success without the guidance and support from the faculty, moderators, and for my Omicron officers for being so consistent in delivering service towards the CPC students. But on the top of that, it was the unity of the students of College of Pharmacy and Chemistry that made us win with one goal, to uplift the pharmacy profession.”
